Adrift:
Senegal's coastal crisis and the deadly route to Europe

Credits: Executive Producer, Investigator

Over six months, I reported across the Canary Islands and Senegal on how illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing fuels irregular migration from West Africa to Spain. I drove the project from pitch to publication—building trust within migrant communities in Tenerife, tracing families across Senegal, and conducting interviews in both Spanish and French. I also led the investigative work, using satellite tracking to monitor bottom trawlers and spending time undercover at sea. In the field, I operated multiple cameras, tripods, lights, and lav mics under challenging conditions along Senegal’s coastline. By applying sensitive interviewing techniques, I ensured each story was captured with authenticity. In post-production, I translated quantitative data into an accessible, visually compelling narrative.
